Real talk: There’s no harm in being a makeup hoarder. A girl's got to have options! But when you own so many products that it makes getting ready—and getting out the door on time—impossible, that's when it's time to call in for some help. We turned to organizer extraordinaire Tidy Tova for some tips on keeping your beauty stash from getting too crazy.
First, choose your organizer. If you have a vanity or specific area where you do your makeup every day, consider investing in a nice storage container to sit out in the open. Tidy Tova recommends one with small drawers and holders on top. But if that’s not an option for you, don’t worry—a small pouch, a few small plastic or cardboard containers, or even some upcycled tin cans will do the trick.
Pick out the stuff you use every day. Despite owning a million products, we all have those precious few we reach for each morning. Once you’ve selected your favorites, put them on the top storage section of your organizer or right into your makeup pouch or holder. Easy access is the key here.
Be selective. We know it’s tough, but attempting the occasional product purge is essential to maintaining your makeup collection. C'mon, you know that three-year-old lip gloss is gross by now, and just get rid of any free makeup samples you know you'll never use. Need help deciding when to chuck what? Read more here.
Divide up the rest by category. Lipsticks go with other lipsticks. Eyeshadows with other eyeshadows. You get it. Make some sense of the chaos.
Put the lesser-used products away. If you’re using one big container, each product type can go in its own little drawer. Or place your separated mascaras, blushes, etc. in individual trays of your choosing, and stick them in an empty (but accessible) drawer. When they’re out of sight, your space will feel way less cluttered.
